Evolved in the Vedic era, this alternative medicine was first described in the book “Agnivesha Tantra” by Agnivesha and later on it was revised by Charaka in “Charaka Samhita”. Basis of Ayurveda:
Ayurvedic medicine is known to blend with the natural processes of the body and provide a long time relief from health problems. Ayurveda believes that body is the confluence of five elements- Earth (prithvi), Fire(agni or tejas), Water (ap or jala), air (vayu) and space (akash), thus nature plays a vital role in understanding the biological processes of body. The basis of Ayurveda comes from three elements of nature:
- Vata (air)- controls movement
- Pitta (fire)- controls metabolism
- Kapha (water)- controls structure
These three elements are collectively called Tridosha in Ayurveda. Ayurveda balances these three elements to ensure a healthy body in most secure manner. Ayurveda encourages people to inherit the qualities form nature to appreciate a healthy lifestyle. There are more than 16000 herbs that grow only on Indian soil, that are used to prepare Ayurvedic medicine.
