The spirit of India resides in its rich culture that has been nurtured for centuries by Indian people. There are several practices of India that are being accepted as a part of life in different parts of the world. Yoga and meditation are among those practices that have their roots deep into spirituality and are being practiced by people not only in India but in the Western world as well.
A number of people visit India in search of spirituality. They seek the calmness that the practice of yoga and meditation brings to life.
Yoga and meditation create a balance between a person’s body and soul. Yoga promises a healthy body and meditation helps to attain a calm and composed mind. People in India have been practicing yoga and meditation from ancient times and have passed this knowledge from one generation to another.

According to the Vedas, Yoga evolved in the Vedic period in the spiritual land of India. Vedic yoga which was also called seer is said to be the root of modern yoga. The popular four Vedas describe the different types of yoga and how they are practiced. Vedic yoga and archaic yoga are two forms of this art that were practiced in ancient times. In ancient times, yoga was a way to connect the self with the deity, but modern yoga is more about health, still, it has not lost its spiritual aspect. Yoga has changed through time and can be categorized into:

  • Modern yoga

Swami Vivekananda connected the Western world with modern yoga, and today a large number of people visit the motherland of yoga to learn this art of healthy living. Many have accepted this spiritual practice in their lifestyle and have gained from it, as yoga is not just a practice, it is a way of living.

Meditation

Mind is the smartest yet trickiest part of human body. It solves toughest of the problems but there are times when it is stressed enough to disturb one’s life. Meditation promises a calm mind in this fast moving life. In ancient times meditation was practiced by saints to focus their thoughts on their beloved deity. Even today meditation is being practiced by a number of people to bring their thoughts under control and live a stress free life. The benefits of meditation include:

  • Reduce anxiety
  • Strengthen immune system
  • Improved mood
  • Cure tension-related problems
  • So, spirituality is not for the old anymore, it is the trend and India is leading this trend.
